DOBSON VINEYARDS
    THE BEGINNING

At the beginning of the 1970’s Jerome
Dobson, a visionary now considered a
pioneer in California viticulture, hiked
the foothills of the Sierra Nevada
Mountains looking for the perfect
location to grow wine grapes.  He had
been working in and studying the most
prestigious vineyards in France and
knew with the right location he could
produce wine grapes of superior quality
and flavor to those grown in the Central
Valley of California.  He was right!
Because of its unique location the
scientists from U.C. Davis saw Dobson
Vineyards as an excellent opportunity
to apply their knowledge to different
methods of viticulture.  Their approach
to Dobson Vineyards was very hands-
on. Bob Lider, Superintendent of
Operations overseeing all U.C. Davis
efforts in viticulture, grain, and orchard
production for over 30 years) made sure
Dobson Vineyards was involved in
cutting edge applications of the newest
and best practices available.  Bob Lider’
s expertise combined with the backing
of the U.C. Davis staff is part of what
has made the wine grapes from Dobson
Vineyards so exceptional.
